She completed her PhD in Applied Linguistics (2015) at Northern Arizona University and Ed. M. in Language and Literacy (2011) at Harvard University. Her research interests are corpus linguistics, English as a foreign language (EFL) / English for academic purposes (EAP) curriculum development, content and language integrated learning (CLIL), English medium instruction (EMI), and teacher training.
She has developed and taught more than 18 courses such as Integrated Content and Language (ICL) courses for graduate students majoring in Mathematics and Business Technology Management (BTM), and served as EFL Curriculum Director at KAIST. In addition, she has been teaching her MOOC courses including Big Data and Language 1 & 2 (https://www.coursera.org/learn/big-data-language-1) in Coursera, How to Write an English Job/School Application (https://kooc.kaist.ac.kr/profile-new/lectures/22254) in STAR-MOOC. In particular, her Coursera course was selected as one of the most popular MOOC courses by Classcentral in 2020, and approximately 7,000 students have taken the course since 2020 (as of 2021).
She also has been actively participating in teacher training. Since she completed the TESOL program at Georgetown University in 2007, she has trained novice and experience teachers domestically and globally. Moreover, she has developed a microteaching program for KAIST professors with her colleagues after taking part in the EMI programs at Oxford University and University of Leeds.
Based on her teaching experience, she has given presentations at multiple international conferences as a keynote speaker and a featured speaker, and published her papers in refereed journals including TESOL Quarterly and Language Teaching Research. She also wrote books for students and teachers who are interested in corpus linguistics, EFL and EAP. For instance, teaching tips that she created based on corpus linguistics were published in a book entitled New Ways in Teaching Vocabulary by TESOL Inc. In addition, English for Counselors and Clinic English are series of her EAP books.
Finally, she is interested in leadership and educational donation for society. She was involved in National Association of Graduate-Professional Students (NAGPS) when she was a graduate student in the U.S. She was awarded Excellence in Service, and Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities in 2014. Furthermore, she has given free lectures for children and teenagers in low-income families, and got awarded Minister of Education Award in 2017. She explores how she dedicates herself and language education to society.
