영어도서 독후감 대회 English Book Review Contest 2021

목표

  • 1) 학부생들의 영어 독서 능력을 증진시키고 독서를 통한 창의적이고 깊이 있는 사고를 함양하도록 함.
  • 2) 도서관의 EFL 추천도서 (현재 190권, 전자책 포함) 이용을 활성화하고자 함.

  • 중앙도서관에 비치된 스페셜 EFL 추천 도서 190권

    (이 중 130권은 KAIST Library홈페이지-전자자료-전자도서-ProQuest Ebook Central에서 전자책으로도 이용가능)

  • 기타 우수 도서 (작품 제출전 위원회로 부터 도서 승인 필요)
  • 목록에 없는 도서라도 참가하고자하는 학생이 먼저 심사위원장에 도서 승인 받으면 작품제출 가능.

시상

학생들이 해당 영어도서를 읽음으로써 영어 읽기 능력이 향상되며, 독후감을 다양한 방식으로 표현함으로써 영어 작문 및 프리젠테이션 능력을 고루 개발할 수 있도록 다음과 같이 세 분야로 나누어 시상합니다.

1) Essay – 대상 1편 (70만원 상품권), 우수상 2편 (40만원 상품권)
Essay는 내용을 설명하고 분석하고 평가하게 됩니다. 분량은 3페이지, 이중 간격, 최대 1,000단어 이내가 되어야 합니다.
수상작에는 다음 내용이 포함되어야 합니다.

2) Presentation - 대상 1편 (50만원 상품권)
book review presentation 이란 내용을 설명하고 분석하고 평가하게 됩니다. 발표를 사전녹화하여 제출해야하며 분량은 4~5분이내 이여야 합니다.
수상작에는 다음 내용이 포함되어야 합니다.

3) Book trailer (동영상 예고편) - 대상1편 (50만원 상품권)
Book trailer 이란 결말을 밝히지 않고 이야기를 강조하는 홍보 영상입니다. 예고편에는 중요한 장면이 포함되어야 하며, 책의 등장인물이 말하는 장면이 포함되어야 합니다. 분량은 영상자료 2~3분입니다.

심사기준

  • 1) 내용의 독창성, 적합성, 충실성을 제 1기준으로 한다.
  • 2) Essay의 경우 영어 문장의 완성도를 제 2기준으로 한다.
  • 3) 대상 수상 회수는 1회로 제한, 우수상 포함 기타 수상은 3회로 제한한다.
  • 4) 내용 표절이 인정되는 경우 수상 심사 대상에서 제외되며, academic dishonesty 관련 학교로 부터 추가 조치가 취해질 수 있다.

일정

  • 1) 작품 접수 마감: 2021년 10월 8일(금)
  • 2) 선정 작품 발표: 2021년 11월 15일(월)
  • 3) 선정 작품 시상식: 2021년 12월 2일(목)

필수사항

  • 1) 재학 중인 KAIST 학부생만 참여 가능합니다.
  • 2) 모든 제출 자료는 영어로만 작성되어야 하며, 원본제출을 기본으로 합니다.
  • 3) 대회의 수상분야 별로 개인당 한 작품씩 제출 가능합니다. 예를 들어 한 학생이 하나의 essay, 하나의 presentation, 하나의 book trailer 제출 가능합니다.
  • 4) Essay는 반드시 PDF나 Word 형식으로 제출해야 합니다.
  • 5) Presentation/Book trailer 영상은 Youtube에 업로드 후 링크를 제출해야 합니다.
  • 6) Presentation은 필수로 PPT와 발표하는 영상본의 Youtube 링크를 함께 제출해야 합니다.

  • 1) To develop students’ deep thinking and creativity by improving their reading skills
  • 2) To promote the use of EFL recommended books (currently 190 books including e-books) at the KAIST library

Awards

There are three ways to participate in this book review contest: Essay, Presentation, and Book trailer.

1) Essay – 1 Grand Prize (700,000 won gift certificate) & 2 Excellence Prizes (400,000 won gift certificate for each)
A book review essay should be 3 pages, double spaced, a maximum of 1,000 words.
A winning essay should contain the following:

A book review presentation should be pre-recorded and 4-5 minutes in length and should include the following:

3) Book trailer – 1 Grand Prize (500,000 won gift certificate)
A book trailer is a promotional video (much like a movie trailer) that highlights the story without giving away the ending. The trailer must include important scenes and incorporate speaking characters from the book. The book trailer video should be approximately 2-3 minutes.

Evaluation criteria

  • 1) Originality of contents, appropriateness, and accuracy will be the most important criterion.
  • 2) In the case of an essay, correct grammar will be the second most important criterion.
  • 3) One can receive Grand Prize only once, and excellence prizes may be given to the same person up to 3 times.
  • 4) A participant who engages in plagiarism will be excluded from the contest, and additional measures may be taken by the school disciplinary committee.

Schedule

  • 1) Submission deadline: Friday, October 8, 2021
  • 2) Announcement of selected works: Monday, November 15, 2021
  • 3) Award ceremony for selected works: Thursday, December 2, 2021

Rules

  • 1) Participants must be current KAIST undergraduate students.
  • 2) All submissions must be in English and must be original.
  • 3) One submission per category is allowed for a participant: that is, a participant can submit one essay, one presentation, and one book trailer.
  • 4) An essay must be submitted in PDF or MS Word.
  • 5) After uploading presentation/book trailer videos to the student’s personal Youtube account, the student must submit the link.
  • 6) Students must submit both the Power Point file and Youtube link for presentation.
