Basic English Courses
All incoming freshmen are required to take an English Proficiency Exam (or official TOEFL ibt). Based on these Pre TOEFL scores, students are required to take the Academic Camp (in January).
Academic Camp Requirements
Students with scores below 15 in both Speaking & Listening or in both Reading & Writing from the English Proficiency Exam (or official TOEFL iBT) are required to participate in the camp. However, students need 12 or higher in both Reading & Writing or 12 or higher in both Speaking & Listening to pass the camp.
Basic Class Requirements
Students must get a minimum grade of 70% to pass the class and/or take the Extra TOEFL(taken after the end of Basic Course(s).
Students are required to take the Basic Course(s) in cases such as (Group 1) If students opt to skip the Academic Camp, they are required to take two Basic Courses: Basic Speaking & Listening and Basic Reading & Writing and (Group 2) If students fail the camp, they are required to take one or two Basic Course(s) according to the Post TOEFL score(taken after the end of the Academic Camp).
Students will fail the Basic Course in the cases as such (1) received a TOEFL score below 12 in both Speaking & Listening or in both Reading & Writing and/or (2) receive less than 70% in the Basic Course.
At the end of the Basic Course(s) students are required to take the Extra TOEFL if (1)students do not have a TOEFL score and (2)students got below a 12 in 12 in both RW or 12 in both SL.
If they fail to achieve the required scores on the Extra TOEFL, they will be required to take one or both basic courses again according to their scores.
Students who are absent from the camp due to unavoidable reasons such as accidents, hospitalization, and serious illness are required to take one or both basic courses according to their TOEFL scores.
Students who fail the camp are not required to take the EXTRA TOEFL test. However, they must get a grade higher than a 70%.
Basic SL and/or RW open in Spring & Fall semester, and Summer session if needed.
